The Schola

"Inter vestíbulum et altáre plorábunt sacerdótes minístri Dómini, et dicent:  Parce, Dómine, parce pópulo tuo:  et ne claudas ora canéntium te, Dómine."

"Between the porch and the altar, the priests, the Lord’s ministers, shall weep and shall say:   Spare O Lord, spare Thy people:  and close not the mouths of them that sing to Thee, O Lord."

(Joel 2:13)

Schola Gregoriana Malverniensis is based in Malvern, is dedicated to maintaining the traditional music of the Catholic Church in its proper liturgical setting in the context of the Extraordinary Form liturgy (1962 Missal), and sings both Gregorian Chant and traditional polyphonic settings of the propers and ordinary.

The Schola formerly sang Mass in the Extraordinary Form each Sunday at the parish church of the Most Holy Trinity, Ledbury (Archdiocese of Cardiff.)   See Extraordinary Malvern for further details.  However at present - in light of Traditionis custodes and by order of former Archbishop George Stack and present Archbishop Mark O'Toole - neither singing nor playing of the organ is permitted at those Masses.

With no Masses to sing locally the Schola is nevertheless still able to accept invitations to sing Missae Cantatae at other more distant parishes.

For examples of the music we sing see the Music Library.

Rehearsals were typically held close to Malvern on Thursday evenings 7:30-9:00.
